Whatsapp To Introduce Free Calls From April 2014

WhatsApp Inc., the mobile messaging service that agreed to be acquired last week by Facebook Inc. for $19 billion, said Monday that it would offer voice calling as early as April, allowing free phone calls among WhatsApp’s 465 million users. Jan Koum, the co-founder and chief executive of WhatsApp, also said during a speech at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona that he is hoping to grow the service to one or two billion users. Mr. Koum said that the WhatsApp voice product would “focus on simplicity” as it has with its text-based messaging service. He said that WhatsApp would first release a version of the voice service for Apple Inc.’s, iPhone and Google Inc.’s Android platforms, followed by services for Microsoft Corp.’s Windows Phone, as well as some phones by BlackBerry Ltd. and Nokia Corp.
“We want to continue to have that minimalistic approach to the product,” he said. “We at WhatsApp want to get out of the way and let people communicate.” Mr. Koum added that the voice product would “use the least amount of bandwidth, and we optimize the hell out of it.”
Speaking about the Facebook acquisition announcement earlier this month, Mr. Koum said that the product wouldn’t change, stressing that WhatsApp would remain independent. He cited Instagram’s example, after the acquisition of the photo-sharing service by Facebook.
Mr. Koum said that WhatsApp was likely valuable to Facebook because “we both want to make the world more connected,” though Mr. Koum stressed that WhatsApp wanted to know “as little as possible” about its users, including details such as a user’s name. “There are no plans to change anything that we do with the product today,” he said, using words like “minimalistic,” “utilitarian” and “uncluttered” to describe his philosophy.

Nokia Unveils Its First-Ever Android Handsets: Nokia X, X+ & XL

Nokia Unveils Its First-Ever Android Handsets: Nokia X, X+ & XL

Finally, Nokia has joined the Race of the Andriod Manufacturer, Believe this is a Great move from Nokia.. Nokia has evolved round almost all the Mobile OS from Java to Symbian to Meego to Windows and Finally to the World Leading and Widely used OS “Andriod”..

Nokia introduced a new family of smartphones, the Nokia X series of phones. The first three phones in the family – the Nokia X, X+ and XL – run on the new Nokia X software platform, that is based on Google’s Android.
The phones under the Nokia X family are not pure Android phones; these phones instead run a forked variant of Android, similar to the way Amazon does for its Kindle Fire lineup. Nokia has taken the open-source elements of Android and has pulled in other elements of Asha and Windows Phone to offer users a different experience.
The downside here is that Nokia X users can’t have access to the Google Play Store for apps. However, the phone will run Android apps, but Nokia will curate a list of such apps. A recommended source for the apps is the Nokia store, says the company. In other words, the new platform, Nokia X, is based on the Android Open Source project (AOSP).

Features such as the Play Store belonging to Google are not included in these phones as they maintain Microsoft’s own services, including Here Maps, and the Bing search engine.
As far as hardware goes, these phones aren’t comparatively impressive. The X and X+ each have a 4-inch WVGA display (800 x 480), a 1GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of storage, microSD support, a 5MP camera and a 1500mAh battery.
The X+ differentiates itself in that it offers more storage and more memory. The XL appears to have similar stats as the X+, including the 5-megapixel camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, except that it has a larger 5-inch WVGA IPS display (resolution not available yet).
Looking at the software, most people would probably have a hard time telling it’s Android. That’s because it’s not really Android, but more of a forked version of the mobile operating system. It’s a lot like Amazon’s Kindle Fire devices—theres no visible Google or Android badging.
In fact, it appears that everything is going to hook into Nokia and Microsoft apps and services: Nokia’s stock apps and Android app store, and Microsoft’s cloud and search services. Nokia has also installed its Fastlane UI for quickly navigating between social networks and messages.

Mourinho: Arsenal have run out of excuses

Mourinho: Arsenal have run out of excuses
The Chelsea manager is taking his Premier League title rivals very seriously, arguing that their promising young players have grown up and been joined by experienced heads
chelsea manager Jose Mourinho believes Arsenal cannot use youth as an excuse for failure this season as they are now a "mature" team.

The Gunners have gone eight years without winning a trophy as Arsene Wenger has prized youth development over spending large sums of money to acquire established talent.

But the north Londoners now lie just one point behind Premier League leaders Chelsea with 12 games left, and Mourinho interprets this as a sign that their talented youngsters have come of age.

"Arsenal have spent many, many years working together, making these players grow up and achieve this maturity level," the Chelsea boss told the Daily Mail.

CHELSEA LATEST
10/1Chelsea are 10/1 with Paddy Power to beat Manchester City 1-0
"These guys, Jack Wilshere and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Theo Walcott and Kieran Gibbs, they are not kids any more. They were kids but, in this moment, they are mature players.

"The manager, with this group of players ... four, five or six years working with these players and then adding fantastic players like Mezut Ozil, Santi Cazorla or Per Mertesacker to the team, these last pieces of experience. I think they are a very good team."

Chelsea are set to face Manchester City for the second time in 12 days on Saturday when they travel to the Etihad Stadium for the FA Cup fifth round and Mourinho feels that, despite two wins against Manuel Pellegrini's men so far this season, the hosts will be "favourites".

He declared: "We have got a very difficult draw in the FA Cup. We play in the home of the best team in the country but we have beaten them twice.

"If people were saying that, the last time we did it, there was no Fernandinho and no Sergio Aguero: the first time we beat them, they were playing. But that makes it even more difficult to beat them for the third time.

"The draw has opened the competition up for a smaller team to reach the final," he added. "Two big teams are going out in the quarter-final, with us drawn against City and Liverpool against Arsenal. It opens the door completely.

"And imagine if, in the semi-final, we play the winner of Liverpool v Arsenal. It is fantastic because the cup belongs to everybody. We have a difficult job of playing [away against] the favourite."

England manager Roy Hodgson dismissed speculation of a recall to the international setup for centre-back John Terry on Wednesday and Mourinho is happy not to wade into the debate.

"It's a waste of time to keep speaking about the situation," he stated. "Roy Hodgson is the person to kill the discussion or to feed it. End of story.

"I'd never intervene. He's in charge and has everything in his hand. He has made that decision.

"For me, as a Chelsea manager, I'm happy players play with their national teams but, at the same time, I'm happy an important player like [Terry] is fully focused on his work at Chelsea."

Mourinho v Wenger: A war of words

Mourinho v Wenger: A war of words
The Chelsea and Arsenal bosses are at each other again as the Portuguese responded to criticism of having a ‘fear of failure’ by labeling the Frenchman a ‘specialist in failure'

It seemed as if Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger had put their differences to one side this season as the two focussed mainly on the football and less about each other.

However, this was just the calm before the storm, as the pair are at each other's throats again, after the Chelsea boss accused his Arsenal counterpart of being accustomed to failure.

Here, Goal takes a look at some of the infamous insults that the pair have traded.

FEBRUARY 2005

Wenger: "Take what Arsenal and Chelsea have won in the past eight years. I go with reality, with the football we play and the challenge we have ahead.

"I don't see especially that Chelsea play more English players than we do. Who have they produced, homegrown? Just one, John Terry."

Wenger defends himself after being critisiced for fielding an all foreign squad in a match against Crystal Palace.

AUGUST 2005

Wenger: "I know we live in a world where we have only winners and losers, but once a sport encourages teams who refuse to take the initiative, the sport is in danger."

Mourinho parking the bus? Wenger accuses Mourinho of using negative tactics.

OCTOBER 2005

Mourinho: "I think he is one of these people who is a voyeur. He likes to watch other people. There are some guys who, when they are at home, have a big telescope to see what happens in other families. He speaks, speaks, speaks about Chelsea."

Mourinho feels Wenger's criticism of Chelsea’s transfer activity is becoming tedious.

NOVEMBER 2005

Wenger: "He’s out of order, disconnected with reality and disrespectful. When you give success to stupid people, it makes them more stupid sometimes."

Wenger threatens to take legal action against Mourinho for calling him a 'Voyeur'.

Mourinho: "At Stamford Bridge, we have a file of quotes from Mr Wenger about Chelsea football club in the last 12 months - it is not a file of five pages. It is a file of 120 pages so we have a very strong reaction. My objective is that it is enough."

Mourinho responds by defending his strong attack of Wenger, and claims to have the Frenchman's Chelsea insults on record.

APRIL 2007

Wenger: "If you would like to compare every manager you give each one the same amount of resources and say: 'you have that for five years'. After five years you see who has done the most."

'Le Professor' takes a cheeky dig at Mourinho on the eve of Chelsea's 2007 League Cup final win over Arsenal, in which John Obi Mikel, Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Adebayor were sent of for their part in an ugly brawl.

NOVEMBER 2007

Mourinho: "Unlike Arsenal, we sought success and tried to build it through a concept of the game using English players."

The 'Special one' points the finger at Wenger and Arsenal’s policy in his book.

APRIL 2008

Mourinho: "The English like statistics a lot. Do they know that Arsene Wenger has only 50 per cent of wins in the English league?"

Seven months after leaving Chelsea by 'mutual consent' the Portuguese manager can't help himself but to have another swipe at Wenger.

NOVEMBER 2010

Wenger: "You never say it doesn't cross your mind but when you see how it looks on television it is the best demonstration to think: 'Never do that again'.

"It looks, frankly, horrible. It's a pity to see that from a big club."

Wenger vents his disgust at the now Real Madrid manager’s decision to get Xabi Alonso and Sergio Ramos deliberately cautioned by the referee during a Champions League match with Galatasaray.

Mourinho: "Instead of speaking about Real Madrid, Mr Wenger should speak about Arsenal and explain how he lost 2-0 against a team in the Champions League for the first time [Braga]. The history about the young kids is getting old now. Sagna, Clichy, Walcott, Fabregas, Song, Nasri, Van Persie, Arshavin are not kids. They are all top players.

Mourinho battles back, bringing out the classic ‘lack of success’ insult.

FEBRUARY 2014

Wenger: "It is fear to fail. If you are not in a race, you cannot lose it. If you declare yourself not in the race, you cannot lose, it simple as that."

Wenger says that the title is Chelsea's to lose and that Mourinho is playing down his own team's chances because of a fear of faiure.

Mourinho: "So maybe he's right, maybe I'm not used to failing but the reality is that he's the specialist because he's had eight years without a trophy. If I do that in Chelsea I leave and I don't come back."

Mourinho responds with possibly his most hard hitting attack yet, claiming that Wenger is a 'failure specialist'.

And so it rumbles on. The old rivalry has been sparked again, and that is certainly not going to be the end of it.

Eden Hazard happy with West Brom point

Eden Hazard happy with West Brom point

Published 2 hours ago by Atoyebi Taiwo, read by 256 people.
Eden Hazard has insisted that Chelsea's disappointing 1-1 draw against West Brom was a point gained, not two points lost.
Chelsea led through a first half Branislav Ivanovic header and looked on course to open up a five point lead over Arsenal.
But Victor Anichebe scored a late equaliser to give the Gunners the chance to reclaim their top spot against Manchester United tonight.
Despite a looking like a disappointing result for the Blues, Hazard believes there are plenty of positives to be taken from it.
“It’s still a point, even if many people are disappointed,” Hazard said to Chelsea’s official website. “I think this is a point that will count. There were some good things but others less so.
“You cannot win every game and it was important we didn’t lose. We’ll improve in the future and we will try to win the next game. We’ll see what happens when the other teams play.”
It was the second time in the space of a month that Chelsea have dropped points to relegation candidates having been held to a 0-0 stalemate at home to West Ham.
Hazard said, like West Ham, Pepe Mel's side made it hard for the creative players of Chelsea to express themselves.
“It was a puzzling game. At 1-0, I thought we were managing the match well but we couldn’t get the second goal which would have given us protection and then the game became difficult,” Hazard said.
“I tried to play, we tried to play, but it was a very difficult game. It was a complicated whenever I had the ball because there were two or three opponents there. We could have got one or two more goals if we had been a little smarter with our final passes.
“They had a plan to defend, as was the case when we played West Ham. It was a similar situation except at the end West Brom pushed a lot, their crowd got behind them and it became complicated.”
Chelsea face title rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup in their tie as they fight for a place in the quarter finals.

Chelsea striker target rules out Stamford Bridge move

Chelsea striker target rules out Stamford Bridge move

Chelsea target Gonzalo Higuain has revealed he is keen on staying at Napoli for a considerable amount of time.
Higuain, who moved to Serie A outfit Napoli from Real Madrid for a fee believed to be in the region of £34.5million, was attracting interest from Chelsea during the January transfer window but decided to stay at the Stadio San Paolo.
The 26-year-old Argentine international, who has scored 12 goals in 22 Serie A games since joining Napoli, was identified as the man to improve Chelsea's goalscoring record.
Jose Mourinho was keen on signing a striker as Chelsea strikers Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto'o and Demba Ba have failed to deliver on a regular basis this season.
Chelsea were apparently weighing up a £48million move for Higuain in January but were unable to tempt former Stamford Bridge boss Rafael Benitez into selling his star asset.
And Higuain has ruled out sealing a move to Chelsea by stating his happiness at plying his trade at Napoli.
Speaking to the Italian press, Higuain said: "I want to be like Maradona by first winning the World and the Scudetto with the blue jersey.
"In my heart, I still believe the same title this season, but if we are away we will do everything to take second place.
"My future is in Naples. I have a four year contract, I want to stay here."

A former leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, MEND, Henry Okah, who was found guilty on 13 counts of terrorism, was caught attempting to break out of the Leeuwkop prison in Johannesburg, South Africa recently.

According to reports, Okah was the leader of a pack of five inmates attempting the jailbreak.

Among his accomplices was infamous South African convicted serial rapist and murderer, Jaco Steyn, who is serving five life sentences in addition to a 170 year sentence.
Okah was on March 26, 2013 sent to 24 years in prison by a South African court sitting in Johannesburg.
The judge, Neels Claassen, found Okah guilty of 13 offences, including the setting off of two bombs in Abuja and Warri, Delta State, on October 1, 2010. He was also sentenced for threatening the South African government after his arrest.
Back home, the MEND over which Okah presided, said it was shocked by the sentence, saying it was a planned punishment by both the Nigerian and South African governments.
The two major bomb attacks in Nigeria for which Okah was convicted in Nigeria were carried out to embarrass President Goodluck Jonathan, Claaseen said while sentencing the accused.

It might look like one of those Nollywood’s make-believe stories but people close to Chika Nancy Ike are swearing to high heavens that the Igbo born lady does anything for money including “seeing” men and allegedly same sex.

The dependable source who drew our attention to the fact that, no sooner Chika stormed out of her marriage of 5 years than she began making millions of Naira and relocated to Abuja where she opened a multimillion Naira fashion accessories store after she was pimped for the nation’s No. 3 man, an affair she vehemently denied though.

“It is no longer news that she’s dating Senate President, David Mark, he’s the one that bankrolled her Fancy Nancy Collections and she’s also frolicking with 2 State governors from the South South, one of the governors just gave her millions to go for shopping in Dubai, and this is aside her affair with her manager, Serah Donald.

Our reliable source confided in National Enquirer that Chika’s manager Serah Onyeacho popularly known as Serah Donald, a nominee of the Exquisite Lady of the year awards ELOY 2013 in the category of Manager/PR of the year is a lesbian known in the movie industry and her partner is the pretty actress.
The duo goes virtually everywhere together including abroad and those in the know are said to be baffled on why an unassuming lady like Chika would be involved in lesbianism act. Serah Donald who also doubles as a movie producer recently starred the actress as the lead character in her latest film titled The Barrow Pusher under her production company named Serah Donald Productions.

The latest of their numerous trips abroad we gathered was their January 2014 adventure to the United Arab Emirate UAE Dubai. The duo was lodged at the Emirate Palace Hotel, Abu Dhabi which is said to be one of the most expensive hotels in Dubai. They spent days going from one mall to another shopping and posting pictures on Instagram and twitter. We shall keep tracking them.

JUST IN! ASUU May Embark On Another Strike

Another strike by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is imminent as there is fear over the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding reached with the federal government.
Photo: ASUU may embark on another strike
Indications emerged as the national treasurer of ASUU, Dr Tunde Aremu, while speaking at a luncheon held in honour of media for their roles in the last strike in Ibadan yesterday, disclosed that government was yet to release the N220 billion for 2014-2018 programmes.
He warned that the gates of the universities might again be shut should government refuse to implement the MoU reached at the tail-end of the last strike.
Aremu explained that the money was to be released on quarterly basis and deposited at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). However, he expressed fears that the MoU reached with the government before the last strike was called off might end up not being implemented as agreed.
Wondering why the government let the last strike continue for 5 months, he said that they don't want another strike to be launched.
While commending the media, Aremu said that the emancipation of Nigeria depends on the media and urged them not to rest in their oars.
He said the struggle for the implementation of the 2009 agreement had been partially won and called on the media to beam their searchlights on the universities on how the money would be spent.
Meanwhile the chairman University of Ibadan chapter of ASUU, Dr Olusegun Ajiboye, said the union had no option than to proceed on the inevitable strike since all avenues to let government realize the need to implement the agreement had failed.
Ajiboye lamented that the government didn't manage to use the resources at its disposal to effectively fund the educational system of the country.

Only PDP Can Save Nigeria –President Jonathan

Only PDP Can Save Nigeria –President Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday said only the Peoples Democratic Party could save Nigerians despite the challenges facing the party.
photo
Jonathan stated this in Sokoto State during a grand rally and reception organised for a former governor of the state, Attahiru Bafarawa, who defected to the PDP from the All Progressives Congress with his supporters.
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, was however conspicuously absent at the rally attended by Vice-President Namadi Sambo; President of the Senate, David Mark; the state deputy governor, Murktar Shagari, top government and party officials.
The state governor, Aliyu Wamako, had recently defected to the APC alongside four other former PDP governors.
Jonathan stated that PDP remained the symbol of democracy in the country and that Nigerians, including religious leaders, business leaders, men and women who are not partisan politicians, believe in the party.
He added that if Nigeria was practising parliamentary system of government, he would have called for early elections to prove that PDP was still in control despite the gale of defections it was experiencing.
The President said, “I was telling some people when we were coming this morning (Saturday) and I saw the crowd, that if we were running a parliamentary system, where the prime minister can call for early elections, I would have called for early elections.
“Let us see where this noise is coming from, whether they are supported. Some people are afraid to go back and contest the seats because in a normal setting, if a parliamentarian leaves his seat and crosses to another party, the assumption is that you have consulted with your constituency and they agreed that you should cross over.
“Such a parliamentarian would want to call for early elections to show that he is going with his constituency, but in Nigeria, the story is different.”
While listing the feats achieved by his administration in education, agriculture, power and road construction, Jonathan disclosed that after Sokoto, the team would also go to Imo, Kano and all the geo-political zones to showcase the party’s achievements to the people.
He added that Nigerians get jittery when they hear the challenges the party is facing “because the feeling is that if anything happens to PDP, it will affect the country.”
“The reasons are obvious; PDP is the only party that is stable. It has undergone its changes. Other parties are still changing, we don’t know where they will change to but PDP is stable at all levels and we promise that PDP will continue to give leadership at all levels.
“PDP is the only party that has the vision to lead this country to stability and economic revolution,” he stated.
Vice-President Sambo commended Bafarawa for his bold initiative in joining the PDP with his large followers.
“The umbrella will soon be filled up, those wishing to join should better do so on time,” he said.
National Chairman of the PDP, Adamu Muazu, said the PDP remained the party to beat in the country in the next 60 years.
In his remark, Bafarawa said he was led into joining the fold of the PDP on the instruction of his people.
He assured the President that as far as Sokoto was concerned, he should “go to sleep.”
He said, “Mr. President, I don’t want to tell you too many stories. As far as Sokoto is concerned, you can go and sleep. You don’t have any problem. We have been winning the elections; we have been rigged out and manipulated out.
“Today, we are back to the mainstream of PDP; there is no other party that will get even a councillor seat in Sokoto, except PDP. This is a message I’m delivering on behalf of my people and the entire people of Sokoto State.”
Meanwhile, on Saturday, newly appointed National Director (Contact and Mobilisation) for Goodluck Support Group, Mr. Perry Opara, said ahead of the 2015 general elections, over 3, 200 groups had indicated interest to organise rallies for the re-election of the President.
Opara, who is a PDP chieftain said, “For a long time, we have discovered that some of the people in government and in the present administration are not reaching out to Nigerians and telling them what the government is doing and its achievements.
“We were called to work at the hub of the Presidency and we have been there for over two years.  As I speak, over 3, 200 groups have indicated interest to organise rallies and conferences for the President’s second term, for which he has the right, if he so desires.”
While describing the threat by the All Progressives Congress to take over power from PDP as an old threat, Opara said the planned rallies would win more support for Jonathan.
He said, “I assure you there would be rallies in support of President Jonathan, after the rallies, you will see the opposition  reduced to 35 per cent.”
